The mayor of New York has caused a major political upset by asking for a law preventing him from running for re-election to be overturned.
Billionaire businessman Michael Bloomberg is due to stand down from the high-profile job after his second term in office at the end of next year.
But he said the financial crisis on Wall Street and his record as mayor meant he deserved the chance to re-run.
Voters have approved previous moves to limit officials to two terms in office.
Rumours that Mr Bloomberg would reverse his previous support for term limits and try to run again had been swirling around City Hall for weeks.
If the voters don't like what they've seen they will vote for someone else, and that's as it should be

But in what looks like a co-ordinated effort, the powerful speaker of New York City Council, Christine Quinn, said she would introduce legislation early next week.
Twice during the 1990s, voters voiced their support for limiting city politicians to just eight years in office.
The council has the power to change the rules, and given that many members are approaching the end of their own second four-year terms, it looks likely that the mayor will get his way.

No i dont think that he should run again for mayor do to the fact that he should allow someone else to endore and bring new ideas to help make a better environment and connection with U.S citizens ,even though he has been runing for some time and he may know what really needs to be done or change as a mayor but at the same time he should let someone else have the chance.
Should Mayor Bloomberg be able to run for another term in office? I certainly think not. Just because there are problems on wall street, doesnt mean that he could help get out of the crisis. Its going to take more than just mayor Bloomberg serving another term in office to fix this. If the government allows him to serve extra terms, who says they wont do that for presidents. Is the government that powerful? I believe that we should give someone else a chance at becoming mayor just to see what progress can be made.

I think bloomberg should run again for mayor. If he is a good mayor people would vote for him. Just give him a chance to elect and give the people the choice. If he does not get elected then he will know he was not a good mayor. Why do they make laws if then they try to change them?

I dont think Bloomberg should be able to run again for mayor. I dont think its fair. I dont think the rules should be broken. Every other mayor followed the rules he should too. Besides why does he need another term to fix whats goin on in wall street he shouldve prevented it so we wont be in this problem.

How would Michael Bloomberg feel if his chances to run for mayor were decreased due to the present mayor wanting to stay in office? I don't think he'll feel very nice. New York is going through a financial crisis but it doesn't mean that Mayor Bloomberg can stay. I think it's unfair to following leaders who want to make a change and help as well. He's being selfish and unfair to the people that want to become mayor and those who have been. We need changes to step forward, and maybe a new Mayor along as President can be the solution.

Due to the crisis on Wall Street and the economic financial problems that America have today, I believe we need a mayor who will bring new and better ideas to the table. With rumors that Mayor Bloomberg will be running again, I believe that it will be fair to have someone else run this year. I dont think that he is overriding the rules of American democracy. Mayor Bloomberg certainly still has the right to state that he wants to be running once again. Maybe giving another chance to Bloomberg wont be as appalling, however having new ideas that will help America would be a good thing if we give a reasonable chance to someone else.

Personally, i believe that mayor Bloomberg should get another chance to run for mayor. he's doing a good job now and people will probably vote for him again. And yes he should follow the rules and give someone else a shot to run, but it wouldnt hurt anyone if he does get another chance.

I think that Mayor Bloomberg should be able to run again for a third term. Why not? Its not like he's a bad mayor. He has been doing very good especially in the last few months. He is very involved in the economic crisis and also global warming. I don't see why he shouldn't run again. And like he said, if you don't want him don't vote for him.

I think that Mayor Michael Bloomberg should have the chance to run again. Bloomberg has been a good mayor and has helped us. It wouldnt hurt if he elected again. People should be given the choice to vote and that will determine whether the people liked his ideas and believe he will do a better job. This wouldnt affect us in any negative way.

i agree with lashawnda in some ways because i do believe that we should give sumone else a chance to become mayor.But maybe Bloomberg has a good plan with fixing our economy. If bloomberg does run for a next term i believe that soon other people who are in office are goin 2 run for an extra term.So in some cases it would not be fair.I guess well have to wait and see how this all plays out.

Mayor Bloomberg should be given a chance to run again for a third term. He has been doing a great job as a the New York Mayor. He is always seems to be involved in the problems that are occuring like the decreasing economy and global warming. If some one like that has been doing great and no one has complained why not vote for him again if he was given the chance. I agree with Rony if u dont want him to run then dont vote for him.

Due to the crisis and finicial problems we're facing as a state, as new york, i believe we should have a change. Its not fair if he runs for mayor again cause i believe that there are other political parties who can make a change and help us get out of this situation. I'm not trying to say that he's bad as a mayor but others do deserve the chance and we the people deserve some better change.

i dont think that he should run for mayor again. He needs to give other people a chance, you never know if the next mayor thats elected can help us with our problems and do a better job than bloomberg. The bill been like this for years and why wait until now to change it because this one person(bloomberg)who im sure is not doing such a great job; to change the bill. If he was such a great mayor he wouldnt need another term to help us with whats going on on wall street or whatever excuse he has to try and run another term.
What is so special about bloomberg that he should run for a thrd term. It's not like he was the best mayor ever or anything he was pretey mediocre. We are tired of mediocracy New Your Need a GREAT ayor that will abide nby the rules and knw when it's time to step down. He is just power hungry. Hes had the taste of power on his lips for so long hes not ready to give it up. Hes an addict. AND ADDICTS SUCK!.
