McCain attacks Obama's tax plans

Republican presidential candidate John McCain has again attacked his rival's policy of re-distributing wealth, saying the middle class would suffer.

Mr McCain told supporters in the western state of New Mexico that his plan was to create jobs for Americans.

But Democratic rival Barack Obama said tax cuts would be put "into the pockets of 95% of working families".

He said Mr McCain sought to distance himself from failed Bush administration policies he had backed for years.

With just a week of full campaigning left, polls put Mr Obama ahead overall.

A poll for Newsweek put Mr Obama at 53% support and McCain at 40%.

NBC News reported that Mr Obama was now leading in enough states to put him over the 270 electoral college votes needed to win the presidency.

We've seen that movie before in other countries. That's not America

John McCain

Mr McCain began his weekend campaigning in New Mexico, a state won by the Republicans in 2004 but which could be key in the 4 November presidential vote.

He admitted he was a few points down, but told the rally "don't give up hope".

"Stand up and fight. America's worth fighting for."

Attempting to distance himself from President George W Bush, Mr McCain said: "We cannot spend the next four years as we have much of the last eight, hoping for our luck to change at home and abroad."

Mr Obama has proposed a tax increase on the 5% of taxpayers who make more than $250,000 a year and advocates tax cuts for those who make less.

"He [Obama] believes in redistributing wealth. That means taking money from one group of Americans and giving it to another. We've seen that movie before in other countries. That's not America," the Republican senator said.

He said 50% of small businesses - and their 16 million employees - would feel the impact of Democrat tax rises, to pay for nearly $1 trillion of new government spending proposed by Mr Obama.

Do you believe Obama has a sound tax plan? Why or why not?

I believe that Obama's tax plan isn't fair for all Americans. What I know is that tax policy should NOT be progressive. People should NOT be punished for being successful. The wealthy people might not like the idea and it will cause a decrease in Obama's votes. Obama says his income tax plan will lower taxes for 95% of Americans. There is just one problem with this, 40% of Americans already pay no income tax. So I believe that this will have an impact with the Social Security System. Yes it will be a good thing for the people who aren't economically well, but i do believe that everything is about equality in America.

I think that obamas plan to cut taxes down is in a way good for those who aren't in a good time with their economy. As all things that have a good and a bad part the bad part is that the wealthy people arent't going to like the idea of having to pay more taxes.Just because they have good jobs and alot of money. This will cause obama to loose in this presidential debate. What about the other 40% of americans who don't pay incometax.

IT WON'T BE FAIR

I THINK OBAMAS WANTS TO HELP THE MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE BY CUTTING TAXES. THEN AGAIN ITS NOT FAIR FOR EVERYONE BECAUSE PEOPLE WITH MORE $$$$$$ ARE NOT GOING TO LIKE THE IDEA TO PAY MORE TAXES. OBAMA WANTS TO HELP SMALL BUSINESS GET IN BETTER SHAPE. THE BIG BUSINESS DONT NEED HELP THEIR ALREADY BIG. THEY HAVE $$$$$$. WILL JUST HAVE TO WAIT TO SEE.

I agree with Clariza that Obama's tax plan isn't fair for all americans because many other people who are wealthy would disagree with him that would make him loose his some votes. In a way its good cause people who dont make that much money wont be taxed that much for people who do make enough. I believe that this would impact many people like again with social security. I also believe that America should have equality, it makes everything alittle better. They make us believe that theres equality when sometimes its not.

I America is supposed to be about equality and Obama's tax plan isnt fair to all. Because the wealthier people will have to pay more taxes, they will be upset and not vote for obama. Causing him to loose votes. Even though his plan is beneficial to those in need of the financial help, it isnt fair to those paying the taxes only because they have good jobs and get paid a lot..

It's clear that Obama is trying to help the people who are struggling with money.Although it may sound like a grate idea for does who need the econmy to get better it's not for does who are in well conditions. The wealthy people are baisically going to pay more taxes and it's just not fair.

mr.ross i dont like to follow politics even though i should know wats going on wit the presidential election because this can affect me in many ways. I really dont know what to say for this blog other than that obama is trying to help people and business that is not doing so good and that he might loose some of his votes from toher people because the wealthy might not agree with his plan

Im no politician but I would have to say that Obama's Tax plan sounds pretty good. Some may say thats its not fair to increase taxes of the wealthy, but its ridiculous to take the same amount of money from people in different classes of wealth. Obama plans to redistribute wealth and lower the taxes for 95% of America, how can that possibly be bad. Redistributing weatlth would furthur strengthen the idea of eqaulity between classes in America. There is no way anyone can say lowering the taxes of almost our entire country is bad, everyone wants to save money. It's just natural.

I believe that Obama is trying to help the middle class. His tax plan isn't as bad as people think. I think that Obama wants everyone to move a step further, so no one would be left behind or feel different. I do agree with those who said, it isn't fair to the wealthy people to increase their taxes. Obama should come up with a different strategy that will help those who need it, but wont have a negative affect to the ones who don't.

Every one was born to live an equal life. I believe that Obama's tax plan is not fair. the higher class people will have to pay more taxes. Eventhough they have the money to pay it,mthey will be upset and not vote for obama. This may Cause Obama to loose some votes. I know Obama wants to help the ones in need, he needs to find a better plan in which it help bothe the higher and lower class. Obama should consider the consequences to some of his actions.

I do not believe that Obama has a sound tax plan. I believe that it is not fair for Obama to take money from one group of people and give it to others. Everyone has the equal chance in life to be what they want to be and make a good life for themselves. It is no one elses fault for how people lives turn out and no one should have to pay for it. I belive Obama can come up with a better plan and should work on it a litte more.

I believe that Obama has a good tax plan. Screw the rich people we ned to save money. Look at the economy now. Minorities are at risk. I can see how ya'll saying id bad but be realistic, the majority of the people in the United States are minories 95%. So... GO OBAMA I LOVE YOU!

I do not think Obama's ideas on taxes are fair to all the American people. I agree with Clariza when she says that by raising taxes on some Americans, Obama will lose votes. He will. No one wants their money taken away just to give it to someone who may even be working for him. However, doing so may be one of Obamas tactics for bringing the economy back up where it belongs. And hey, I'm not making a quarter million dollars a year. So if this helps the economy, then by all means Mr. Obama.

Obamas Tax plan sounds like a resonable Plan. McCains policies only seem to apply to those of the middle class standards. What about people who are un fortunate..i other words (poor). Its not fair to tax people under the middle class standard...what would be the point of taking money out of the poor peoples checks when they have families to support. It seems only fair to tax those who make a certain amount a year. No ones punishing anyone for being sucessful but Obama uses it as a way to help out ALL AMERICANS instead of the rich and middle class.

i belive that obamas tax plan isnt fair for all americans but then again neither is McCain's.I dont agree on being taxed but it is needed. And when something is needed it has to be produced fair or unfair. So if everyone is going to be taxed they should be getting taxed equally so there wouldnt be any arguments.

boohoo. im last to this blog. i BETTER GET THE POINT THOUGH MISTER!

..Basically to me it depends the person lifestyle to decide whether or not Obama is being fair. although he is helping the middleclass, he needs to think about the high class too. if i were to be winning good money i would go with this being unfair because why should i pay more taxes for these people? some of these people just basically live on welfare money without even doing a effort in other help. so its unfair having someone who actually does work have their taxes taken off a lot for someone who doesnt.

... but im not rich so GO OBAMA!

i think obamas take plan in a way is good and bad.its good because it lowerss takes for the less wealthy so they could be abble to afford something.but its bad because the wealthy will feel targeted because they make so much money.this is america we "ALL" have to work together to make this a better place.so we jus need a plann that can benefit everyone.

I feel that obama's tax plan is good in a way even though it only takes part to only 95% of America when half of the city does not pay taxes which will put us an difficult states of more percentage been taking out of our money, but obama try his best to make ways were as it can be equal for all.
